Different cups, new plant cup design

I’ve received my new couple of cg3.

But… my cups aren’t the same.

Different version or defect?

Hi @Pippitto87

Plant cup with the long tube that, covers the wick, is an earlier design version, and the one in the lower post is a new design. A shorter tube at the bottom of the cup allows changing the wick more easily but still keeps it nicely intact while the plants are growing.

@Mirjam, is that the actual wick coming out the bottom of the newer cup? I would think that would make wicks a one-use item. Wasn’t there a new cup design that let roots grow into the reservoir? So much innovation!! Hard to keep track of it all.

Update: the basil plants I combined and transplanted to a larger pot under lights last December are still going strong. A little woody at the base but plenty of new growth and seeding. They are quite amazing!

I hope everyone is safe and happy.

Hi @HappyME

the newest cup is the pro cup, and the wick is still much needed to keep the soil moist for germination and also until the roots grow more freely to the tank. As plant nutrients are locked in the plant pod- wick keeps the soil nicely moist so that nutrients can leach and become available for the plant.

I have had the 3 pod click and grow for a year. I received the 3 tier Click and Grow for my birthday. Love it. However, I have a few pods not sprouting. The new click and grow wicks are different. I’m including a picture. When I researched the issue, it says to check to ensure the wick is in the water properly. The wick on the 3 tier doesn’t have the ability to adjust the wick. Has anyone else had any issues? Pod on left is from the 3 Tier Click and Grow and the one on right is from 3 Pod Click and Grow.

Hi, @Debby

the wick is still the same but the plant cup design has changed.

About the pods that did not sprout. Is the soil moist? And, if yes, for how long have you been waiting for them to sprout, same time suggested under plant info?

Thank you for responding. The pods that are not sprouting were moist but not real wet. They are in my new 3 Tier Click and Grow. I have a question about how far the lights are from the pods too. I have a small C&G (3pod) and I can adjust the arm height. I haven’t had any issues with the 3 pod unit. Can you give me more information?

If the plant pod is moist and it still does not sprout during the sprouts in the time given on the product page/package, there must me some other reason why it is failing. Definitely submit a ticket to the support and they replaced the pods for free. They will also ask for a picture of the pods.

Regarding lamp height, some users like to start a new round of growing without the lamp arm, so the lamp is at the lower position, and they add the first arm as the plants get taller. I personally keep always one arm on, from the start the lamp is sufficient while new seedlings are sprouting and once the plants are taller I harvest them or cut back as needed. It is up to you how you prefer.
Here is also a smart garden 3 set up video, I hope you find this helpful.
