There’s no rule as to how often the water should be changed. And it is probably not necessary too, as it’s safe to add water at least once every week. At first, the plants take up less water and the tank will stay full for longer periods but as the plants start getting mature they will need more water. Also when using pro-cups the water amounts should be checked more frequently.
The only time the tank water should be changed is during cleaning or resetting the garden. After some time of growing the plant debris can fall into the water or the roots make a mess - then it’s optimal. The density of cleaning is also dependent on the water quality on site. More calcareous water can leave more residue in the tank and wicks.
